NEW – Introduction to Sand Tray Therapy
This workshop is designed to offer an introduction to using a sandtray in a therapeutic process with adult clients.
Sandtray Therapy enables the client to construct an actualised three-dimensional landscape which corresponds directly to their internal world. Akin to when we dream, this physical manifestation of a client’s unconscious experience provides an opportunity for phenomenological exploration of unconscious process thus promoting enlightenment, self-awareness and the opportunity of transition.
Using creative tools can enable more access to parts of the self that are otherwise inaccessible using standard talking therapies. Clients who struggle with their feeling-self, or find verbal communication difficult, can benefit greatly from this method of working. Sandtray work can easily be adapted to be used alongside many different modalities, so is a useful technique for all those working in a psychotherapeutic capacity.
This workshop is designed to offer an introduction to using a sandtray in a therapeutic process with adult clients. We will look at the ways in which the sand can be used by itself, then further expand the creative reach of the technique by introducing objects and figurines into the work. This kind of approach inevitably leads to the presentation of phenomenological data which we will used to guide our client’s understanding and awareness. We will use grounded theory to underpin the work, then work experientially using imagery & metaphor, roleplay and ‘hot-seating’.
Sandtray therapy is actively used with clients with a wide variety of presenting issues, including depression, anxiety, trauma, attachment issues, personality adaptations, and many others. This certainly a useful and adaptable technique to add to your creative therapeutic toolbox.
This workshop is facilitated by Scott Staniforth and provides 6 hours of CPD.
