People with PTSD lose their way in the world. Their bodies continue to live in an internal environment of the trauma and they are terrified of the sensations in their own bodies.
A traumatic experience impacts on the entire person. The way we think, learn, and remember things, the way we feel about ourselves, the way we feel about others and the way we make sense of the world, are all profoundly altered by traumatic experiences.
Most people don’t realise that trauma is not the story of something awful that happened in the past but the how we continue to experience them in the present. We are all biologically and neurologically programmed to deal with emergencies, but time stops in people who suffer PTSD, their bodies keep reliving the past.
The key objectives of this workshop are:-
- To provide a background of PTSD & DSM V
- To understand the prevalence of trauma in society
- An overview of simple and complex trauma
- Recognising dissociation
- The use of stabilisation techniques
- Formulation and ways of working with PTSD
- To practice guided imagery techniques to aid stabilisation.
The workshop is suitable for counsellors, therapists and mental health workers as well as trainee practitioners wishing to develop their knowledge and skills to work with people suffering the effects of trauma. We aim to give you a theoretical framework to work from and hope you will leave the training with the ability to understand and recognise trauma in clients and to be able to use the techniques of preparing clients to work on their trauma.
This workshop is facilitated by Ericka Johanson and provides 6 hours of CPD.
Please note, our training room is on the first floor and is accessed by stairs. If you have any special requirements, or if you need to advise us of anything before booking or attending the training, then please contact us.
