Clients are increasingly disclosing sexual violence and historic abuse. This can affect all therapists, whether you are a counsellor, mental health professional, PWP, CBT therapist or EMDR therapist. Whatever setting you work in, this can create many complexities that are difficult to navigate. This workshop will follow the ‘journey’ of someone who discloses and goes through the criminal justice system, highlighting the challenges for clients and ourselves as therapists.
It will explore:
- Issues around disclosure, safeguarding and reporting
- Implications for working with clients in pre-trial therapy
- What happens to client before and during the trial process
- How we can support clients who have to give evidence
- Dealing with the outcome of a trial
We will use a mixture of case studies, theory, learning from the law and other professions as well as practical and experiential work to expand our awareness and skills for how to manage this difficult process.
This workshop is facilitated by Ali West and provides 6 hours of CPD.
The material in this workshop awakens many sensations, emotions, experiences and thoughts. It is really important that you already have some awareness and knowledge of this subject.
