Tom is a BACP accredited counsellor and EMDR UK and Ireland accredited EMDR practitioner. He has almost two decades of experience working with adults with a wide variety of presenting problems.
These include anxiety, depression, anger, addictions, relationship difficulties, stress and self-esteem. Tom has a special interest in working with veterans and first responders suffering the impact of trauma.
He completed his PGDiploma in Counselling at Durham University in 2004, going on to complete an MA there in 2006 and to become accredited by BACP in 2009. He has subsequently undertaken a further Postgraduate diploma in Human Givens Therapy at Nottingham Trent University, an MSc in psychology at Sunderland University and parts 1-4 in EMDR, gaining his accreditation in 2020. He completed a certificate in counselling supervision in 2007.
He worked for Mind between 2008 and 2018 worked previously in community addiction treatment for four years. He now works solely in private practice, having combined this with his work for Mind from 2013 to 2018.
Tom says “I believe strongly that the person in front of me is the expert on themselves; my role is to enable them to overcome the obstacles in their path and to access or reconnect with the skills necessary to do so. I develop a specific plan with each individual client to identify and then meet their goals”.
