Naomi is an EMDR Therapist and CBT Therapist, offering therapy to individuals over the age of 16 for common mental health problems including (but not limited to) Anxiety, Depression, OCD, Low Self-Esteem, Insomnia, Binge-Eating Disorder, PTSD and Phobias.
Naomi is an experienced CBT Therapist who recognises the importance of applying this model compassionately, and recognising that the source of these difficulties often lies in past experiences as well as current physical symptoms or complex life situations. Using the CBT model, Naomi will support you to identify any habits and beliefs which may be a barrier to healing. CBT is about looking at the relationship between experiences, thoughts, feelings, and behaviours as the starting point for therapy. Within therapy Naomi will work collaboratively with you to explore and make sense of your experience, identifying your strengths, what is currently distressing, and what you are aiming to change. Naomi will then work with you to develop new skills, insights, perspectives and approaches, or build on existing ones. To achieve this, Naomi creates a safe, non-judgemental therapeutic environment.
EMDR is an approach which Naomi uses as a stand-alone treatment or blended with CBT. EMDR is effective for processing past experiences which are the source of current difficulties. EMDR works by accessing images or memories and using eye-movements or other techniques to stimulate the body’s natural ability to process information.
Naomi started work in the NHS as an Occupational Therapist in 2003 in hospitals and in the community. She subsequently worked as a Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner and then as a Cognitive Behavioural Therapist within NHS Primary Care Mental Health Services. Naomi has a personal interest in Mindfulness and qualified with the Oxford Mindfulness Centre to teach Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy. Naomi currently works as a Highly Specialised Psychological Therapist within the NHS.
