Karen is a qualified Cognitive Behavioural Therapist and EMDR Therapist providing online therapy

Karen is a highly experienced CBT therapist and has significant experience of working with people with a variety of physical and mental health conditions. Karen is registered with the HCPC.

Karen has over 20 years’ experience of working within the NHS and private practice. She has worked in lots of different areas including social deprivation, cultural differences and across the lifespan with students to older people.

Karen has worked in a variety of NHS services including Secondary care – acute day service and wards and in Public Health where she worked with business and Primary care in IAPT services. Most recently, Karen has been working as a self-employed CBT Therapist. She has been working online for over 4 years. Karen believes online therapy works really well and is as effective as face to face therapy.

Karen works with a range of treatment models – CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy), Solution Focused Brief Therapy, Compassion Focused Therapy and Mindfulness based interventions.

Typical mental health issues Karen works with include, depression, generalised anxiety, panic disorder, social anxiety, self-esteem issues, OCD, phobias. Karen also works with more complex issues such as trauma and PTSD, body dysmorphic disorder, eating disorders and psychosis, and emotionally unstable personality disorder.

CBT and Mindfulness have a strong evidence base and are recommended by the National Institute of Clinical Excellence (NICE) for depression and anxiety disorders.

Karen has embraced the concept and effectiveness of EMDR in her therapeutic practice and is now offering this as part of her therapy toolkit.

Karen’s sessions are client centred and she uses an integrative approach to her work. The aim of your sessions is to provide you with a “toolbox” of strategies to help deal with your thoughts, feelings and behaviours that you can then use when you have future difficulties.

Karen loves working as a therapist. She is passionate about helping people find hope and a way out of despair. Her own journey has shaped Karen as a therapist, as Karen suffered from anxiety in the past and if she had been able to access therapy, at that time, it would have been really useful. Karen is also a qualified occupational therapist.

Karen loves mindfulness, yoga, cycling, sea swimming and the benefits of the outdoors to mental health. Karen practices mindfulness daily.
