Karen B

Karen is a Clinical Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy Practitioner and is a registered Clinical Hypnotherapist (including NLP, EFT and Reiki) Practitioner. Karen is a member of the GHR, CNHC and INHA, with several years’ experience in private practice and working within a charitable organisation as a voluntary complementary therapist. Within this role Karen offers valued and supportive weekly sessions of hypnotherapy/reiki to terminally ill patients.

Karen runs regular private clinics in Jesmond, Newcastle and Leeds, West Yorkshire. She offers both a caring and confidential service, professionally tailored to suit the individual needs of her clients. Karen works closely with her clients to achieve positive life changing goals in a short a time frame as is practically possible.

Positive life changing results can often be experienced within 2 – 3 sessions, however, as we are all uniquely different it is impossible to predict exactly how many sessions a client will need as this is usually determined by the complexities and how deeply rooted issues are found to be. For complex or deep rooted issues Karen often uses analytical or regression/age regression hypnotherapy to establish cause and release by the setting up new learning patterns, through visualisation, metaphors or imagery.

Karen is a strong believer in the benefits of regression therapy which is something she demonstrates several times throughout the year to student hypnotherapists. Karen’s toolkit is extensive and she adopts a multi-modal approach in her practices.

Karen has experience working with a diverse range of issues such as;

  • Stress, Anxiety, PTSD, Fears, Phobias
  • Smoking Cessation
  • Pain Management
  • Weight Control and Virtual Gastric Band
  • Pregnancy & Childbirth
  • Menopausal Support
  • IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome)
  • Hypertension
  • Confidence, Self Esteem & Motivation
  • Exam Nerves/Public Speaking/Improving Memory
  • Sleep Disorders

Hypnosis is a proven effective treatment, for using non-intrusive techniques to help to bypass your conscious mind, helping clients to overcome many problems. Hypnosis helps clients to eradicate unwanted habits or behaviours, supporting clients to find relief from specific emotional issues or assisting clients to build more confidence in their daily life. Hypnosis, in itself is not a therapy but it is used in hypnotherapy to access the unconscious mind in the treatment of emotional, psychological and physical problems.

During hypnosis the client remains in full control and is totally aware, just in a deeply relaxed state of mind. Karen often combines hypnotherapy practices with that of NLP ideas. (Neuro – concerns the brain, the things that go on in your mind and the five senses, Linguistic – relates to language, both spoken and non-spoken and Programming – is about behaviour and thinking patterns.) NLP techniques are a collection of ideas and tools that can help to understand life more effectively. These set of ideas, aren’t necessarily truths or facts, they are just a set of ideas for a way of approaching life. The essence of NLP is about understanding yourself and about the understanding between you and other people.

Karen is also an Occupational Stress Management consultant, Hypnotherapy Supervisor and qualified meditation teacher. As part of her specialist programmes Karen often teaches Mindfulness, self-hypnosis and EFT.

EFT (Emotional Freedom Tapping) is a form of counseling intervention that draws on various theories of alternative medicine including acupuncture, NLP, energy medicine, and Thought Field Therapy (TFT). It is best known through Gary Craig’s EFT Handbook, published in the late 1990s, and related books and workshops by a variety of teachers. EFT and similar techniques are often discussed under the umbrella term “Energy Psychology”. EFT may be used to treat a wide variety of physical and psychological disorders, and as a simple form of self-administered therapy. EFT has an 80% success rate with all types of anxiety.
EFT Process. During a typical EFT session, the person will focus on a specific issue while tapping on “end points of the body’s energy meridians”.

The procedure consists of the participant rating the emotional intensity of their reaction on a Subjective Units of Distress Scale (SUDS) (scale for subjective measures of distress, calibrated 0-10) then repeating an orienting affirmation while rubbing or tapping specific points on the body. Some practitioners incorporate eye movements or other tasks such as humming a tune. The emotional intensity is then re-scored and repeated until no changes are noted in the emotional intensity.
