Heather is a qualified Counsellor and Psychotherapist, accredited with the UKCP. She is also a member of the BACP, and adheres to the BACP Code of Ethics.
Heather has much experience in working with people from a caring perspective having been a Special Needs and Secondary school teacher and a qualified nurse in her past. As a therapist she values the deeper connections made with her clients, the holistic nature of the work, and respects that you are the expert in your own life. She believes that the therapeutic relationship itself is an integral part of the healing process and aims to provide a safe, non-judgmental space where you may feel heard and understood. She will work collaboratively with you, exploring the issues that are troubling you, enabling you to bring about meaningful changes to your life.
Heather uses several counselling approaches – integrating humanistic and person-centred therapy, as well as gestalt therapy, which focuses work in the here and now. Transactional Analysis is her core model. She also uses cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT) tools, creative approaches such as Sand Tray Therapy, metaphor and story, tailoring therapy to your needs and individual personalities.
She has experience working with anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, loneliness, isolation, trauma, bereavement, loss, identity issues and relationship issues. Heather works/ has worked as a Counsellor in the NHS, several education settings, GP Practices and in the Voluntary Sector over the past 7 years.
Heather aims to help her clients to connect with their true selves, so that they know what they really want; are able to live lives which they enjoy and where they have confidence in themselves, their relationships and in their futures.
She regards it a privilege to journey with her clients, regardless of the length of time they engage in Counselling.
