Geoff is an experienced BACP registered individual and couples counsellor, clinical supervisor and a BABCP CBT therapist. He has worked in the field of mental health for almost two decades gaining experience of working with adults with an extensive range of presenting issues.
After qualifying as a Person centred counsellor in 2009, Geoff worked for a domestic abuse service and privately for schools. Geoff moved on in 2015 to gain a broader spectrum of clients and he began working for MIND. In 2020 Geoff started working for an NHS (IAPT) service who he currently still works for alongside his work in private practice.
Geoff enjoys working with a range of client presenting issues. These include anxiety, bereavement, depression, anger, relationship difficulties, stress, self-esteem and trauma including PTSD.
Depending on the client’s preference and presenting issue, Geoff will work using a person centred approach, follow a strict CBT approach or work integratively. This is all agreed between Geoff and the client
Geoff believes fully that no matter what the issue is, the person is the professional on themselves but sometimes they need support to safely explore and rediscover the tools needed to enable them to resolve their problems, so they can navigate the road ahead.
When offering Couple Therapy, Geoff takes a neutral role and seeks to offer a safe space where couples may work together and develop a different experience of one another. Focus is given to encouraging each partner to develop their awareness of the perspective of one another and so build a greater understanding of each other and their relationship. Geoff will help a couple attend to the way they communicate within their relationship and explore issues that have been problematic for them, and so build their relationship together whilst attending to the needs of each other in a compassionate manner
