Debbie

Debbie is a therapeutic counsellor and a member of the BACP (British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists) adhering to their code of ethics in her work.   She works with individuals over the age of 18, to help her clients with the challenges they are facing in their lives.

Debbie has worked at Mind, the national mental health charity, where she gained lots of experience working with people with all types of mental health challenges. She has also worked with a bereavement service, where she was able to help people navigate their journey of bereavement at a pace that suited them. She works in a trauma-informed way, having studied a course on trauma-informed counselling and she is fully insured and supervised.

Debbie has an academic background in the sciences, where her interest in the mind-body connection began. She undertakes various CPD (Continuing Professional Development) courses to complement her counselling work and is interested in exploring how her clients can reconnect with their bodies when experiencing emotional challenges and distress, becoming whole again.

Debbie works in a person-centred, existential way, which means she believes that each person knows what they need for them to be able to experience emotional contentment. Life is complicated and even more so when we add in relationships with others; it’s all too easy to lose track of who we are and what we need, and we can end up depleted. Counselling can help you come back to yourself, rediscovering and prioritising your own desires and needs. Often this is the path to change, where you are then able to lead the life you want to lead, with clarity.

Working with Debbie, you will be offered a safe, confidential space to talk about what you choose. She will listen with empathy, prioritising you and what you want to bring to the sessions. She will see you and hear what you have to say and will build a relationship with you that is supportive and non-judgemental and where change can flourish.

Talking therapy can delve into your past, and this may reveal unhelpful patterns of behaviour, of which you may have been unaware. It can also explore your existential experience – what is going on for you right now, which can be revealing and empowering – being able to acknowledge, accept and champion the person you are, rather than wishing you were different. Counselling offers you time in the week to explore your unique life experience and allow change to happen, while being supported on your journey with compassion.

Debbie has experience in helping people with various challenges such as bereavement, childhood difficulties including how they were parented, low self-confidence and self-esteem, depression, anxiety, health anxiety, relationship problems, overwhelming emotions, avoidant behaviours, difficulties in living authentically, co-dependency, problem-solving among others. Debbie herself has lots of life experience and whatever brings you to counselling, she will be ready to explore it with you.
