Anne is an accredited counsellor registered with the BACP (British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy) and works with adult individuals.
Anne started her working life within an NHS setting as a nurse, midwife and then in 1997 qualified as speech & language therapist from Newcastle University. She specialised in working with adult clients who had a communication impairment as a result of an acquired neurological disorder such as stroke, Motor Neurone Disease and Parkinsons Disease. Alongside her speech and language therapy practice, Anne trained as a counsellor, working initially within a GP Practice in South Shields and then since 2012 counselling within the private sector. Anne retired from the NHS in 2020 and has worked privately from Jesmond Therapy Centre since then. Anne is an accredited member of the BACP
Anne was trained in person-centred counselling and practices primarily according to person-centred theoretical principles. She believes in the fundamental premise of person-centred counselling that people themselves know what is best for them and that given the right conditions they will make choices which benefit them. Anne believes that counselling and in particular the counselling relationship can provide such conditions where you can explore and give attention to aspects of your life you want to change and work out for yourself how to move forward.
Counselling provides a safe space where whatever you bring you will be listened to in an accepting and non-judgemental manner. The counselling relationship fosters openness and honesty when working together. Whatever you bring to counselling will be explored together at a pace which is comfortable to you. Counselling is hard work and can be challenging for both counsellor and client but it is a journey in which you are supported to find your own way through the issues you have brought to the counselling room.
