Introduction

Hypnotherapy aims to bring about changes in the way we think and respond to mental, physical and emotional stimulation.  By addressing the subconscious mind directly, it can help to relieve a variety of unwanted physical, psychological and emotional symptoms.

A Hypnotherapy practitioner uses Hypnosis as a ‘tool’ to induce a deep state of relaxation which allows access to the subconscious mind.  During this natural state of deep relaxation, the subconscious mind becomes highly receptive to new ideas and suggestions.

The subconscious mind stores all our experience, from birth to present and is far more powerful than the conscious mind.  In any situation, we unconsciously access this experience and use it to decide how best to respond to the situation.  Some responses may not always be positive i.e. phobias.   Hypnotherapy can help to change unhelpful or negative responses for the better by changing the information stored in our subconscious mind or providing the subconscious with newer and more helpful information.  Hypnosis usually involves simply relaxing and listening to the therapist.

Our hypnotherapist will work with you on a remote basis and sessions will be conducted either by telephone or video e.g. zoom.

What does it involve?

During the first session, the Hypnotherapist will ask the client about the issue they want to change and will offer the client a basic introduction to Hypnosis. With the client seated on a comfortable chair or lying on a therapy bed, the Hypnotherapist will use words, phrases, music, and the client’s own imagination to guide them to a wonderful state of total relaxation, similar to meditation. This is known as the hypnotic state… or trance.

A hypnotic trance is like a daydream in which the conscious mind is temporarily distracted. Whilst the client is in hypnosis, the Hypnotherapist will talk directly to the subconscious mind whilst the conscious mind is distracted.  The Hypnotherapist may use any of a variety of techniques and suggestions to help the client unconsciously develop new beliefs and responses that will help them to make the changes they are seeking.

At the end of the Hypnotherapy, the client will be asked to open their eyes and return to their normal conscious state. Usually at the end of the session, the client will feel wide awake, but relaxed, and sometimes feel more motivated to make positive changes in their lives. There is no loss of consciousness during Hypnotherapy and the client will be in control at all times. You cannot be made to do anything that you would not ordinarily do.

For Hypnotherapy to be effective, the client must allow themselves to fully relax and allow themselves to go into the trance state.

What are the Benefits?

Hypnotherapy is safe and relaxing and most people describe it as a very pleasant experience. Hypnotherapy is well accepted as a holistic way of helping many conditions such as phobias, stress, blushing, anxiety, lack of confidence, stuttering, post-traumatic stress, motivation, smoking, weight control, IBS, and many other specialist areas.

Typically, a fear of spiders or fear of flying can often be treated and resolved in just one or two sessions.  Many people who stop smoking using Hypnotherapy do so with just one or two sessions and receive all the health benefits associated with not smoking. Similarly, people who are obese and have hypnosis receive all the benefits associated with loss of weight, and their ability to have a better lifestyle, and eat more healthily.

Remember that a Hypnotherapist cannot persuade you to do anything that you don’t want to do. This is why Hypnotherapy will only succeed for you if you really do want to change.
