Coming into counselling can feel overwhelming, scary and often lonely. As a trained Person-Centred Counsellor, Maria believes her role in the counselling room is provide a safe space so clients feel able to explore their experiences without fear of judgement. She offers a therapeutic relationship that is warm, empathic and encourages people to tell their story in their own time and in their own unique way. Maria uses her skills, experience and creativity to respond to the individual needs of her clients and works alongside them to help determine their own goals of counselling.
Maria has considerable experience delivering Brief Therapy in a GP setting as well as supporting clients in long term counselling. Alongside her private practice, Maria is a project manager of a counselling service in a Primary School delivering one to one therapy and groupwork to children aged 4-11.
Maria is passionate about removing the stigma around mental health issues and uses her experience as a facilitator and trainer to encourage her clients to learn more about their wellbeing and promote the concept of positive mental health that can be nurtured and developed on a daily basis.
Maria’s work with children and young people is grounded in play therapy and creativity. Sometimes children can find it difficult to find the words to tell their story.
