EMDR Therapist (adults)
Kate is a fully accredited EMDR Practitioner working with adults.
Kate is an accredited EMDR Practitioner who works with adults. She is also a registered mental health nurse with over 20 years’ experience of working with people experiencing mental health problems of all varieties and levels.
Over a decade ago, Kate started to add to her tool kit a variety of psychological therapies and has been using these therapies and developing tailored treatment plans for clients for many years within her role as a Nurse Consultant in Mental Health within the NHS and within her independent practice in EMDR.
Kate has experience of working as a Nurse Consultant in a Psychiatric Liaison team in the NHS and as a Network Clinical Lead in the NHS, including a role as a Nurse Representative for the Royal College of Psychiatrists Liaison Faculty, working on a wide variety of national projects.
Kate’s previous experience has included extensive time within Crisis Services, work in the NHS Primary Care teams and the clinical management of a range of diverse Psychiatric Liaison Teams across Northumberland, Tyne and Wear.
Kate has undertaken further development in a variety of therapeutic modalities, which enables her to develop innovative treatment packages for clients presenting with complex clinical difficulties, utilising an eclectic approach which she believes is necessary within this specialist field.
Over recent years, Kate has been involved in influencing and sculpting mental health policy, particularly in the field of urgent mental health care.
Educated to Master’s level and currently undertaking a PhD, Kate’s interests include: the impact of labelling on access to services and health outcomes, trauma informed care, developing truly integrated services, engagement and developing the body of evidence to underpin future mental health practice. Kate’s area of study for her PhD is around complex trauma and the influences around care seeking and care giving; in particular the experience of trying to navigate services, which perhaps are not set up/ funded effectively to give people what they need, when they need it.
Kate’s special interests include working with people with complex clinical presentations, many of whom have a complex trauma background and had developed persistent physical symptoms. She has found in this work that working through the trauma history using EMDR, not only impacted on their trauma symptoms psychologically, but also hugely impacted on their physical symptoms, and in many cases, these were eradicated completely.
Kate’s wider interests include mentoring and coaching nursing NHS staff to enable them to be the best that they can, developing truly integrated services, engagement and developing the body of evidence to underpin future Psychiatric Liaison practice.
