Counsellor - Adults
Jeannie is a qualified Integrative Therapist registered with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and works with individuals over 18.
As a counsellor, Jeannie believes that when we talk, share and connect with another person in a therapeutic setting that we can build emotional resilience and heal from emotional pain. She is committed to the belief that counselling has the power to transform lives and through nurturing self-awareness and understanding of ourselves and our relationships, we can find healthy ways to work through difficult emotions and life experiences and also find greater fulfilment and contentment in our lives.
Jeannie’s counselling approach is strongly founded on Person Centred Therapy in which she prioritises the creation of a safe, confidential and supportive place in which clients can explore their uniquely personal issues. She offers empathy, non-judgement and genuine care and compassion as she listens and understands how a client experiences the world.
Jeannie’s training is in Integrative Counselling and this enables her to tailor a range of counselling models to client’s individual needs, and find supportive ways to help clients to achieve the changes they seek. The foundation of this will be a talking therapy approach. Within this she will integrate Psychodynamic and CBT approaches which will support clients to explore issues from the past and also to overcome obstacles to their moving forward. Jeannie believes that this work is most beneficial when a genuine partnership of equality and respect is formed and that this is led by the client’s unique needs.
Jeannie’s approach acknowledges that we all have issues that we carry with us through life and at times this can be too heavy a burden to carry alone. As a humanistic counsellor she will help to share and lighten the burden that clients bring into the counselling room. Together this can be carefully unpacked and the emotional difficulties and obstacles to personal growth and well-being can be explored. Jeannie approaches counselling from the position of believing that all people have the capacity and desire for emotional growth and she will bring a strong and safe therapeutic relationship based on trust and unconditional positive regard. This commitment will be at the centre of the counselling experience.
With a background in education, Jeannie has specialised in mental and emotional wellbeing with children and adults for many years. She is committed to supporting the emotional well-being and personal growth of others, having been responsible for Mental Health First Aid in her educational role. As well as the education sector, Jeannie has experience of counselling in a variety of charitable and voluntary organisations.
