Counsellor - Adults
Charlotte is a fully qualified integrative counsellor, registered with the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP) and works with individuals over 18.
I am an Integrative Counsellor that believes all individuals deserve a voice, a safe space and to be heard. As an integrative counsellor I have studied a broad range of theories ranging from Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Person-centred theory, Existentialism, Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy, Gestalt, Transactional Analysis and Psychoanalysis.
I use theories based on what is relevant and present in the room with each client to fit their best interests. My experience has been with clients who have depression, anxiety, self-harm, suffered abuse, trauma, elements of OCD/PTSD, religious issues, bereavement, loss, physical illness, anger, sports related counselling and others. I am experienced working with a broad age spectrum and occasionally with individuals who are ex forces. This has been in a private practice setting as well as working for local charity Mind over a number of years.
As an integrative counsellor I am able to work with clients as a holistic whole, looking at all issues brought to the room. However, my skills also enable me to work in a more solution focussed way if this is the way in which my client prefers to concentrate. Using specific CBT and Gestalt techniques I can focus on specific issues to attain more goal orientated outcomes. I have also done a lot of work around imagery with clients, whether this be dream work or for those clients who find it easier to express their issues as an image. I enjoy being able to work around my clients needs, whether this be initial presenting issues or issues that become predominant further down our line of work.
Through extended training I have improved my knowledge around post-natal depression, depression, anxiety, schizophrenia, bi-polar depression, dementia, stress, phobias and eating disorders. Furthermore, I have continued to develop knowledge in children and young people’s mental health.
I have also had experience in a teaching setting as a course tutor for levels 2 up to level 5 in counselling skills. This has been a passion of mine alongside my counselling as for myself it ties into the journey people take from their own experiences, which brings them to the realisation of then wanting to help others.
