Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT)

Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) is a holistic therapy which helps to release negative emotions which prevent you from getting on with life the way you want to.  Negative thoughts and emotions can cause a disruption to the body’s energy system and give rise to psychological and physical problems.   Using EFT can assist with eliminating the root cause of these negative emotions particularly around pain, trauma or anxieties.

EFT It is often described as acupuncture without the use of needles, and involves gentle ‘tapping’ motions using the fingertips on specific energy meridian (acupuncture) points on the head, face, upper body and hand whilst focusing thoughts and feelings on the issue to be resolved.

What does the Therapy involve?

At the first session, the Therapist will explain what will happen during the session and will carry out an assessment to identify the problem to be resolved, measuring the current level of distress in the client, generally using a score of 1 – 10.   The client will be seated in a comfortable chair and will remain fully clothed at all times.  The Therapist and client will decide upon a ‘phrase’ to be repeated throughout the tapping session and agree a way to assess progress.

The therapist will either demonstrate to the client the precise sequence of tapping on specific parts of the body or the therapist may do the tapping directly to the client.  Whilst tapping on the relevant meridian points, the client must focus their attention on the negative thoughts, unwanted feelings, unresolved issues or fears they may have, whilst repeating the phrase and/or affirmations agreed with the Therapist.   After each round of tapping, the level of distress score is taken again and it will usually have reduced.

The therapist may introduce other phrases and continue with further rounds of tapping until the level of distress score level is down to or reaches zero.

The client may feel very emotional during the session as emotional blockages are released, however they may feel much calmer, lighter and relaxed at the end of the treatment.
