Scott

Scott has been working as a counsellor and psychotherapist within the North East for the past 8 years. He currently works in NHS primary care and also runs his own private practice here at the Jesmond Therapy Centre.  He offers psychotherapeutic counselling to individuals, and also works as a relationship counsellor with couples.

In the profession, I am considered an integrated therapist as I draw upon many psychotherapeutic approaches to facilitate a therapy that is catered for the individual needs of each individual or couple that I work with. I offer an open and accepting welcome into therapy, where I will sit alongside my client(s) whilst we figure out what you would like to get from your therapy and work out what is possible for us to achieve.

My primary therapeutic approach uses a theory known as Transactional Analysis (TA), which I find to be a useful method of understanding personality and relationships, both for me as a therapist, and for the clients I work with.

At the core of the therapy I offer is the belief that relationships are central to the development of a healthy sense of self, so are therefore an integral part of the process of emotional and psychological healing and well-being. This includes relationships with others in our lives, and also the relationship we share with ourselves.

Biomedical Sciences Integration

Alongside my work as a therapist, I also work within the field of biomedical sciences. Within this arena I have worked extensively within academia as a medical researcher, university lecturer and private tutor. With expertise in human biochemistry, biomedical sciences and teaching, I have integrated this into the therapeutic work I offer to clients. I have been involved in genetic counselling consultation, and working with individuals with complex trauma associated with immunological disease. Using my background in medical sciences and psychotherapy has given me the opportunity to offer education and psychotherapeutic counselling support to those suffering with physical, cognitive, emotional and psychological distress.
