Rifat is a BABCP Accredited Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist (CBT) with over 16 years experience of treating adults with psychological difficulties.

I have a long held interest in mental health services and through my work, studies and my current and previous employment’s, my interest has continued to expand, particularly in the area of CBT. I have experience of working in a range of different settings within NHS and I am currently working in NHS Psychological Services. I also work privately with clients at Jesmond Therapy Centre.

Cognitive Behavioural psychotherapy is evidence based and recommended by NICE guidelines. My emphasis is for clients to discover alternative ways of thinking, behaving and learning about their problems, to maintain a long term change and to become their own therapist. I work with clients to gradually face their fears, and help them learn how this can change their lives for the better by providing a safe, caring and supportive environment.

Everyone has the potential to overcome their problems and increase the quality of their life, no matter what past treatment they have had or how long they have had their problems for. I continually monitor therapy effectiveness by using questionnaires as well as feedback from patients.

My skills in following the Cognitive Behavioral (CBT) Model help clients to deal with anxiety disorders such as;

• Post Trauma Stress Disorder
• Panic Disorder with/without Agoraphobia
• General Anxiety Disorder
• Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
• Social Anxiety
• Hypochondrias
• Eating disorders
• Body Dimorphic Disorder
• Trichotillomania
• Paruresis
• Emetophobia
• Specific Phobias or any other related issues affecting every day functioning

I am also skilled in working with;

• Major depressive disorder
• Adjustment disorder
• Dysthymia
• Post-natal depression
• Seasonal Affective Disorder

CBT can be tailored to clients individual needs. My expectations from clients are to make treatment the main focus during the course of therapy and work on this every day.
