Lorraine is a Cognitive Behavioural Therapist and a BACP accredited Counsellor
I have 6 years experience of working with individuals who, like so many of us, struggle with anxiety and depression. I worked for MIND for several years and then as a therapist for the NHS. Prior to that, I worked in clinical research and as a teacher.
My experience is in Primary Care where individuals frequently present with difficult life issues, interpersonal problems, low mood and anxiety. Depression, worry, low self-esteem, social anxiety, health anxiety, panic, obsessive compulsive disorder, phobias, binge eating, PTSD, perfectionism, insomnia, abuse and loss are examples of the areas I work in.
Therapy can sometimes seem daunting so it’s important that my practice is genuine, warm and open. At the heart of CBT is how we interpret events; with our thoughts and feelings powerfully influenced by the way we behave. My CBT approach is more directive than when Counselling, with agreed goals for therapy and linkwork tasks between sessions to address problems in a practical way. We would work together and practise making changes to behaviours and thinking patterns which may be unhelpful to you. Irrespective of the modality in which I work, my aim is to support you in realising your own potential and living your life to the full.
NICE Guidelines suggest that CBT is a highly effective treatment for common mental health problems and a course of therapy usually lasts between 8 and 20 sessions. Your feedback and brief questionnaires help us to monitor the effectiveness of therapy.
